I'm getting around 7 per round right now. Not great, but it's reflective of my 6 handicap.

What's the typical GIR for you guys?

I'm money from the tee box on par 3s, but can't buy one from even the best spots on the fairway. It's one of my main focuses for improvement.

I aim for 10 GIRs as a way to measure myself. I usually get 3/4 or 4/4 on the par 3s. Irons are the best part of my game right now. I also measure my GIRs from the fairways. If my damn driver isn't working, I'm not gonna be able to hit many GIRs.

You only hit 7 greens but are a 6 handicap? Damn, you must chip and putt well.

I've never actually tracked my GIRs, because my iron game sucks so badly. Now that it's coming around, I may start tracking it.

Yes. My chipping and putting has always been the best part of my game. I once only hit 2 GIRs and still managed a 76 on a par 72 course before.

But it would be nice to not have to rely on the chipping as much. Although I've been chipping out of my mind lately. I've chipped in 9 times out my last 9 full rounds.

I just finished 3 months of lessons and I'm hitting more and more greens as this new swing becomes more natural.

I’m about a 6 or a 7 and a great round for me is hitting 10 greens.

Normally hit 6-8.

The days I hit 12-15 I’m usually sub 75.

I’m a 6.5 hcp and I also average 7 girs per round. All of my better rounds are the times I hit 12+ girs, so that’s what I’m really trying to work on the most

Well, that really wants me to start keeping track. I'm around an 11 at the moment. I would guess though that I only hit 3-5 GIRs. When I do hit the green, I tap a lot of pars and sometimes drop a birdie putt. When I miss, I tap generally tap bogies. I rarely 3 putt except for when I played in a tournament 2 months ago and that's about all I could do

I'm intrigued about my GIR stats which I know have always been low.

The goal for me is to average 11-12 GIRs per round. That statistically makes you a scratch golfer.

That's crazy to think of it that way. For some reason, I just thought scratch golfers played USGA golf hitting almost every green. That really changes my perspective.
Maybe I'm not as shitty of an iron hitter as I thought, maybe

I won my flight in a 2-day tournament this weekend shooting a 83 and 79. 5 GIRs on the first day and 7 GIRs on the 2nd day. 30 putts on the first day and 29 putts on the 2nd day.

Granted tournament golf is a different beast from just a casual round (6 handicap and shoot an 83 ). The nerves I had on my final putt, knowing I would likely win my flight if I made it, that's what those things are about.

At his point I count a GIR as anything that doesnt land in a hazard or bunker.

You don't have to tell me that. Ask Malvin about our last tournament outing.

That was my first tournament after my lessons. I hadn't played in one in 4 months, and man, I blew up some tournaments earlier this year.

This was also my first win. I'm excited. Playing in a 3 day tournament in Orlando in a few weeks. First 2 rounds flight you for the 3rd day. Hoping to be at 9 GIRs by then. Have to work on my long irons off the deck.

I hit three greens yesterday.

Got up and down twice. It wasn't a pretty round.

What tournaments are you playing through? GAGA? I'm trying to find a weekend tournament circuit in North Florida. Hasn't been easy

This isn't a circuit. But I know of some. Where in North Florida are you?
