Maybe he told her his name was Eric? Doesn't seem that they knew each other that well if she didn't even know his last name. Sounds like he was hired to become friendly with her enough to gain her trust to "hang out" and then kill her. A made up name would definitely be part of that scenario.

Several first responders and nurses said they heard the name "Eric" and she was quoted as saying other things like "thirsty" and "cold".
