How does the drawdown reduce sediment buildup? Has new sediment been eliminated and the drawdown allows for dredging?

I'm not really clear on this either. They may just be doing what the can to stop any more new sediment from flowing in. They really didn't describe a plan that would get rid of what's already there...

This is a total shot in the dark, but exposure to oxygen may help break it down faster and allow it to compact into harder bottom.

the draw down allows oxygen to come into contact with the suspending organic layer. It this then allows for the decay of said organic layer. This is the reason draw downs are smelly.

BTW the LSU Lakes needs to be drained to allow for it to decay is organic layer. I wonder how that study has come along.
