Anzalone has 2 season enders and had shoulder problems as a freshman. He played in only 8 games his first 2 years on campus because of it.

Btw Anzalone was having a better season then ole beckwith.

Then why is Beckwith grading out as the 3rd best LB in football right now? Take off the black and gold glasses and admit that we should have picked Beckwith over Anzalone.

I don't think it's people turning on him as much as it's a "we called it" type situation. When he was drafted many people on here were skeptical due to his injury past and this basically reaffirms their fears.

I blame the shite arse soccer pitch with short, slick grass and no give for this injury. Anzalone should sue Goodell

I don't think some of you realize Beckwith has been playing ILB while Anzalone is an OLB

THEY PLAY DIFFERENT POSITIONS

This. I love Beckwith but he and Anzalone play very different roles. The better LSU comparison would be Duke Riley, who by all accounts we were going to take until the damn dirty birds got him.

quite sad actually

I don't see much crapping on him. His injury history is quite notable. It's just people pointing out the obvious.

No excuse passing on Beckwith!

1st round player, in your own backyard, available in the 3rd round. Where did we here this scenario before?

Yeah, he was never a 1st. Maybe 2nd.

Ontop of that, teams passed on him 3 times. He was taken supplemental 3rd

Prior to the injury, Beckwith was 1st round. Yes, teams passed on him, and Tampa hit the jackpot. Same as La'el.

Neither player is a "hit the jackpot" player.

Can you provide a link? I remember 2nd rounder

Edit: from NFL.com:

quote:

BOTTOM LINE Productive full-time starter over last two and a half seasons on talented LSU defenses. Has the size and spirit to play for teams expecting physicality from their inside linebacker, but his game comes with some athletic and coverage limitations. Before his injury, he could have come off the board on Day 2, but may see his stock fall into the third day now. He has starter's ability when healthy.

He was considered a 2 down backer that would be great against the run and short yardage, struggle against the pass.

Bottom line: he isn't a similar player to Anzalone. One is supposed to be a coverage LB and one is an inside linebacker, which we already had

There are very few players capable of making the play he was injured on. We haven't seen a player do that in years.

Anzalone is first round talent that dropped. Hell, he beat out a very good veteran as a rookie. Rare to have a linebacker with his coverage ability

Prior to the injury people still left him as a 2nd rounder because of limited athleticism.
