It was awesome! Here's a slideshow - the hunts in the taller thicker cypress are on Tatoon's and other parts of Maurepas Swamp west of I-55. LINK

The more open areas are on east side of I-55. Salvinia, along with floating mats of fourchette LINK (the "beautiful" yellow flowers you see from I-310 in November/December) have ruined all the habitat in all of the freshwater swamps from north of Lake Pontchartrain to the Morgan City. May as well have paved it over, for what good it is now to waterfowl.

Man that video brings back some great memories for me. I caught the tail end of the great duck hunting in maurepas swamp as a young teen. Some 18 years ago when I was in high school the swamp did indeed burn across from Noranda alumina (kaiser). My buddie's dad took us back there that winter and we had some unbelievable hunts for 2 years straight. I have some polaroid pics from after our hunts. I could kick myself for never bringing a camera back there to take pics of the crystal clear water and charred stumps. His dad also has some great pics of their hunts in maurepas from the 70's. All he ever blew was a yentzen.
