In 1984, the goal of the authoritarian government is always, in all cases, to bend the thoughts of the people to the lies of that government.
Her comments, in even a small excerpt, are true.
Samuel Goldstein was the leader. The logic and reason being questioned was the idea that 2+2 always equals four, no matter the pressure from an authoritarian to convince you otherwise.
In 1984, the press was controlled. As of now, it isn't. That could change, based on Trump's desire to sue them and make lots of money. But the press today investigates and shares facts. If you control them, 2+2=5. If you silence experts, 2+2=5.
It is about simple dominance.
In her example, you eliminate evidence, and force the idea that 2+2=5, regardless of data, evidence, facts, and what you see with your own eyes.
The idea that Donald Trump is a strong Christian is evidence of this. He's never done a Christian thing in his life. But if you call everything fake news, repeat the lie, and demand that people believe it, a large portion of them will.

What in the hell does this even mean?

There are quite a few of last year's flood victims in this area who would disagree with this.
