Recent depth-chart shows Gonsoulin at the top with Culp having an "OR" by his name. What do y'all think of the Kicking battle?

I saw go with Gonsoulin and just live with some of the "rookie" hiccups. He has a big time leg and the ball explodes straight up when he kicks it. He easily has the leg to kick 50+ yarders.
Culps kicks seem start out with low trajectory and climb very slowly (and that's when he hits them well). I just see more risk for blocks later down the line.
Ideally LSU would have a PK they trust. Unfortunately, that isn't the case right now. With neither one looking clearly better than the other I see Gonsoulin giving you more upside if he can work through his inaccuracy.

We could probably find a better walk-on than we have on the team right now.

No you couldn't. Have you seen some college kickers around the country? We aren't shanking the kicks to the corner of the endzones like I've seen from other teams. Have we missed a couple, sure. But they are close and I think with time we will improve.
As said by another poster, I like Gonsulin. He gets good height on his kicks immediately and he has a stronger leg than Culp. I watched them both kick in pregame this past weekend.

Does Mo have any eligibility left?

Get a special teams coach and get rid of that moron from the Saints.

I can not agree with you in this regard. I consider a willingness to provide opportunity to CFB personal relevant to a 'competitive edge.'

I never thought we would have to resort to the two kicker system, but I would go with Culp from 40 in and JG from longer

Can Gamble not kick fg's?

I have always wondered this myself.

Kickers can easily become head cases after successive misses...kind of like my golf game after a couple of bad shots in a row. Would love to be a fly on the wall listening in on Coach O pounding these kickers about performance accountability. Hope they are not "shrinking like violets". Kicking and golf similar...it is all about precision technique, tempo and frankly lots of confidence. Kickers mentally are so different than say a defensive lineman.

Culp on short FGs 45 or closer
Gonsoulin for longer FGs beyond 45

We've actually had a two kicker situation before (long ago). Jackson (the last straight on kicker I remember) was the short kicker and Juan Roca was the long kicker.

We're rocking the rare 3-kicker system with Gamble as well.
I'm not really sure we should use the "long range" kicker who didn't make it to the back of the end zone on a 47 yarder.

JG misses have all been just to the right . I see this as a fixable offense. The ball does explode off his toe he's the guy if he can adjust...

He didn't kick field goals for his high school team even
