Story just has something fishy about it. How could they not find them in that small area yesterday?
They took the canoe out at 5:15 or so on what they thought was a 2 acre lake. If the parents weren't coming home until later, you aren't getting the search on until nighttime.

How did the babysitter not have her phone?
Because she was going out in the water on a boat on what she probably thought would be a 20 minute canoe trip around a small lake and didn't want to risk it getting wet.
Some of y'all like to overthink these things way too much.

A 21 year-old female leaving the house without her phone? I think you're way underthinking here, however I would agree with you if we knew this girl to be a responsible 21 year-old but I'm doubting that's the case or we wouldn't be having this discussion.

They took a canoe out into a lake. Why did they end up in the swamp? and for whatever dumb reason they went into the wooded section, why'd you go so far in you got away from the open lake? Did they lose the paddle? This part doesn't make sense to me. It's an open lake. How did you get lost?

I think it's an easy assumption to think that a 21 year old girl would take her phone with her.
