How does a straight razor compare to a safety razor for shaving?

I am tempted to make the jump. Is it a better shave?

Idk but I rounded the corner and am now enjoying the safety.

I don't shave. Au natural. It gets hot and really itchy down there sometimes. Itchy a lot.

There was a back channel movement to rise up against you and have you sent to ban land. I stood up and defended you and thought you may have something interesting to say.
I was wrong.
You are being monitored...be careful.
ETA. Pardon me. On topic...It is the carpenter, not the tools. Cut your throat.

I shave with a safety razor, and not a particularly aggressive one, though I do use feather blades. I recently had a straight shave at a barber shop in Austin. It was a really enjoyable experience, but I didn't find it any closer of a shave than I get from my safety razor.

I love the Safety Razor, but it does take 2-3 passes. If you only want one pass it's not for you.

Solid advice man. I use a Merkur with a Feather blade and I couldn't imagine a closer shave when the blade is new.

I didn't even know what a safety razor was until I started reading these types of threads on the OT. I finally ordered one with some supplies and was hooked after the first shave.
It turns out you get a closer shave, it's better for your skin, and it's far less expensive than cartridge shaving. It does take a bit more time and care, and you do need 3 passes, but the whole experience is Zen like and you look forward to it every morning. At least that's my experience.

Much more aggressive than a DE closed comb safety razor as there's obviously more razor exposed, and you have to get the angle right. I'd probably just go with the grain and leave it at that for the first week or so until you get a handle on it.

Shave depends on how well you can keep it sharp. They can be a PITA to keep sharp enough to shave well.

Been using a straight for about 6 months now. If you're already used to using a knife for skinning stuff it's pretty easy to pick up on.
Idk how much "better" the shave is, but I like that no matter how long I let my beard get i can make it go away with one pass.

This. Except I use Persona blades.

Safety razor and prefer Merkur blades for my beard type. It is important to buy multiple type blade sample packs and try them out, initially. I had skin irritation problems with all other type shaving, cartridge, electric, etc. For daily shaving I do one pass, if I want a really close shave I'll do two passes. Invest in a good brush and quality shave cream/ soap and aftershave. I change out blades at least once a week.

Without question the very best I've used to date. The slickness on your face after even one pass just sets up nicely for a second pass. I don't worry about touching up here and there without lather after making a first pass with it. It still leaves plenty of protection on your face.

Good advice. You may have given it in another thread. I had been using the merkur blades and decided to try some others. Turns out the Personnas really work well for me and last longer than the Merkur blades. I change blades every 2 shaves.
As for the OP, I have tried single blade at the barber shop and it isn't for me.

I'm a big fan of creamo shaver team.

What does that Cella smell like?
I am Team Proraso but am about out and willing to try other stuff.

I've been using a safety razor for 2 years now and it is miles better than the damn cartridges. I did get a straight razor shave at Art of Shaving one time and it was a little closer but not much.
I'm considering getting a more aggressive razor....I've been looking at the merkur slant blade (39c) or the Symmetry open comb.
