Ned is, by an order of magnitude, the main character of GoT/Season 1.

So, that makes sense. Almost everything that happens that season/novel is because of his actions and the actions of those related to him, with very few exceptions.

If they factored in all the references his kids (and others) still make to him, he'd probably be near the top of the list. Hell, I think Cersei still fantasizes about him.

I wonder if they count Bran's visions for him... probably so... although that wouldn't be more than a few minutes total.
