Aren't their barrier islands off Corpus Christi that can mitigate some of the storm surge?

Not saying I would ride it out if I lived close to the beach. Just curious what they expect.

NPR called Houston "Bayou City" this morning. I have never heard it called that before.

Last I heard on the news earlier today was no mandatory evacuation. Mayor said it inconvenienced too many people. Are there any nursing homes/rehab facilities in that area? Is this still the plan, not to evacuate the most vulnerable? They will be looking at another Chalmett after Hurricane Katrina with people drowiing in the nursing homes. Please tell me this has changed.

I wish all the people that stayed well. Hurricanes are a tremendous force of nature. Stay safe
