Please God, let this be true!!

Doubtful.

i think 40/60 pass/run ratio at best.

Do you really want Etling throwing the ball more than 28 times per game (based on 70 play average)?

I don't.

Not saying it won't happen, but if we run 70-75 plays per game...that's over 35 passes.

That's a lot.

short, high percentage passes can supplement run plays

At pitt last year, they threw 25 times a game, ran it 42.

That's 37%

Etling threw the ball 28 times vs. Texas A&M, completing 20 of them for a completion percentage of 71%....For 324 yards. Sure, I'm okay with Etling throwing it 28 times a game.

Texas A&M Game
324 yards passing 20-28 2 TD's
298 yards rushing

I will take that every Game!

I expect a minimum 60% completion percentage in Canada's offense.

17 of 28 for 225-240 ypg would suit me fine to go along with 42 rushes for 225-240 ypg against Power 5 teams.

Very realistic.

Pitt 2016 - 37/63

LSU 2015 - 35/65

Just for reference.

Who says it'll just be Etling throwing those passes? I guarantee we see MB and LN throw a few of them. And give him a chance since he's now 100% healthy. He threw exactly 28 passes against aTm last season. He completed 20 for over 300 yards. He's absolutely capable of running the offense. I seriously don't understand how some of you football simpletons can't fathom that our previous coach's offensive system supremely limited our quarterbacks.

Right...so I basically quote exactly how the percentages played out for Canada last year at Pitt, and yet I'm way off base.

My numbers are attainable and realistic. You will be disappointed if you think Etling will throw for more than 250 ypg this season.

But he doesn't have to.

LSU can be a 65% run team, just don't make it completely predictable. Not that hard unless you're a stubborn geezer

That's what I was replying to. If he's throwing it well, then why not? And this team isn't Pitt. Canada designs his offense around his players. He's not a square peg in a round hole coach like we're used to. If O really allows him to run the offense, we're not going to be disappointed for long. As long as they can get the kinks worked out, I fully expect to see a high paced offense that's well balanced, fun to watch and keeps defenses on their toes.

At least you didn't cherry pick the game against the team with the 90th ranked defense to make a point

Oh wait

And that seems to be something they want to implement. The stats will ultimately be dictated by game situations as well.

I think this is exactly what we are going to see this year on average. Possibly slightly less. Canada knows what he's doing. We aren't going to be dropping back 30 times a game, but we could easily have 30 forward passes a game. Can't wait

Depending on the defense, we will see a higher number than 26-30 and for others it might be lower so on average, it should sit somewhere between 26-30 a game but look very balanced in yardage, and overall visual.

They are planning to run more uptempo so hopefully 75 plays a game, 30 pass/45 run is what I'd like to see. If the backup QBs really do get snaps Etling might only be throwing around 27 times per game.

This is it, I hope we are going to look a lot like the old 49er teams. Spread the ball around take what they give you.
