How blind am I going to get if I look at the partial eclipse with sunglasses?

I don't think there is anything magical about the eclipse when it comes to destroying your vision. If you glance at the sun you don't go blind, so I assume the same applies here.
but yeah I assume if you stare at it with regular sunglasses you'll be blind as hell

The same amount as if your stared at the sun any other day.

It's no different than looking at the sun on any other day. But they're assuming that people will stare (who wouldn't?), which can definitely damage your eyes. If you stare at the sun right now for a while it will damage your eyes. Just watch for the shadow and once it's pretty covered look up for a sec and look away, you'll be fine.

Here's the explanation I've gotten. When you are outside on a sunny day, your pupils retract to a small size because of the excess of light. When you are in the dark, your pupils expand to take in as much light as possible. Staring at the sun is always bad, even when your pupils are tiny and the light and UV damage can be serious. But during an eclipse our stupid eyes don't register that it's still bright as a sun (when not at 100% totality) so your pupils dont shrink and you take in more light than you normally would on a sunny day. So by that logic, it really is dangerous.
Now I'm still tempted to look at it half way for like 5 seconds. Just to say I saw it.

Blind enough that you will not be allowed to drive, but not so blind that you can't read or post on TD.
