No way in hell I'd make that trade. There's a reason why your friend wants your 686 so bad. The Smith is built 10x's better than the Remington. Would not be surprised if Big Green discontinued the R1 pistol in next 5 yrs.
If you are serious about the Python, you better budget $3000 plus.

1911's are everywhere made by everyone. That does not mean they are all good. Friend just got a full size kimber and it won't shoot accurately for anything.
That pre-lock smith is a damn fine gun. Do not let it go
Just because the prices for each are similar does not mean the value and quality are also.
Save up and buy a Sig 1911 if you have to have one.
