Saints center Max Unger will return to practice Friday.
Unger passed his physical Thursday and was activated off the physically unable to perform list, according to the NFL’s transaction wire. Unger spent the start of training camp rehabbing from foot surgery he had in May.

The Saints want Unger to play at least one preseason game. It’s unlikely he would play Sunday against the Chargers, but he should have enough practice time to be ready to see some action against the Texans on Aug. 26.
Unger missed a Week 14 game last season with the same foot injury he had surgery for three months ago. He returned to play the rest of the regular season but was limited in practices down the stretch.

Damn. Hope he's really healed up and makes fricking Rappaport look like a dumbass once again

Bye leribeus. Hope you go sailing with all those snaps.

Man it's about time we got some good injury news. Unger is key to the Saints success this year

Oh happy day!
but seriously, how hard is it to find guys who can snap a fricking football. There are 120 D1 schools. Surely more than 32 of them had a competent center in the last 5 years.

I want to believe this but our docs don't even know the difference between a contusion and a fractured fibula...Unger might have gang green.

Hopefully they let the Chargers Docs perform his physical

Go ask Seattle how hard it is. They had a hell of a time replacing Unger after the Jimmy Graham trade.

I'm sure it's quite easy to find a guy that can snap the ball. It's the blocking part after the snap that makes it tough

I feel exponentially better about the line if Unger can play. Ram can hold the left until Armstead gets back (or doesn't.)

The center typically makes the protection calls particularly in zone blocking and also trying to spot potential blitzers . They have a lot of responsibilities beside just snapping the ball and dealing with these monster nose tackles.

Unger is a huge need for this line. I hope he's back to 100% by Minn.

Hopefully Armstead makes it back this year. He will be almost 3 months in on recovery at start of the season. Maybe more like 2.5 months. It's a 4-6 month injury according to what was posted about it on various Saints websites, but normally 4-5 months people can get back. Hopefully after the bye week which is somewhat early he will be close.

Unger is one of the 5 most important players on the team

Forget top 5 on the team, Under is #2 with regards to offensive players.
We saw what Brees could still do with Brown at LT. We saw what he could not do with the corpse of the former player Goodwin at center.
