My pot has two marks next to each cup. One shows where to fill it up to and the other shows where it will be after it brews. It's basically a half cup difference. You are losing some to evaporation and some that gets absorbed into the coffee that doesn't come out.

Interesting, thanks fellas. A combination of all these things makes sense to me. I guess I'll just fill it half a cup more every time. I just wanted to make sure something wasn't faulty.
