That's because rap sounds shitty live. It's just a couple of dudes running around stage yelling and swearing. If they happen to sing in any songs, it's heavily edited and sounds equally shitty live.
First, the trend I mentioned predates rap, and is connected with the rise of disco

Second, if there is any point at all to rap, if there is any defense of it artistically, it is as improvisation, which is live.

Nah. There is more crossover/collaboration than ever before. The influence of different styles has never been more abundant.

True

Rap has essentially killed country music

Nah. Country has just evolved.

I like pretty much all kinds if music (including old and new country) though, so I'm kind of indifferent.

there might be more quantity, but the quality is far below the late 60s/early 70s- for one.

Cody Jinks is good

Yes he is. Sturgill Simpson is by far my favorite. Metamodern Sounds in Country Music and A Sailors Guide to Earth are two of the best albums of the last 5 years.

Others:

Jason Isbell - arguably the best lyricist
John Moreland
Justin Townes Earle
Kacey Musgraves - On the poppy side but she's authentic
Chris Stapleton - Obvious answer

I like rap, but I feel like it has hurt our society.

I feel like most white kids who listen to rap just like the beats and lyrics, but I feel like many black kids see it as a game plan for life.

I 100% feel rap and the hip hop culture has helped the spread of gang culture around the country.

I enjoy listening to a variety of music types. None of it is very current music. I listen to rock from the 60's, 70's & 80's. I listen to rap from The Sugar Hill Gang to Outkast. I listen to a lot of 90's alternative rock. I listen to blues from Robert Johnson through Kenny Wayne Sheperd. I even listen to some classical music.

Don't listen to pop or country music.
