re: Leonard Fournette: NFL game 'a lot slower than I really thought'

I’m just serving up some crow
He had a decent enough rookie season, but save for 165 yard in back to back carries, he was an average to below average running back.

I agree, he wasn't sensational. But he was good. He definitely wasn't below average.
His YPC also come against an always stacked box and as someone who watched every Jags game, he made a lot of extra yards I'm not sure others could have made

I don’t slob all over athletes just because they played at the college I attended/follow.

Jacksonville's OLine hasn't been the best at blocking this year, but LF has been a lil disappointing to me to in the regard that he just isn't patient enough to find a hole to run through. A lot of times this season I've noticed he's just barreled straight ahead like he would do against Alabama, and sometimes holes where there if he had looked for them. If there isn't a giant hole there for him to run through he just does that, just jams it up in there, he has to get better at finding those holes. I know he isn't Leveon Bell, to be patient enough to wait for the hole to develop, but he can do better I know. And he was also still hurt this season too, I guess that LSU injury still lingered. But he can be explosive when just bursts out and runs over defenders turning on elite speed for a big back, I expect him to be much better next season now that he knows what to expect.

He definitely wasn't below average.

Except for those times he was good, he wasn't that good.

I think he’s saying LF has been inconsistent

2 consecutive carries: 82.5 YPC
Remaining 266 carries: 3.29 YPC
All 268 carries: 3.88 YPC
So altogether it was an OK season, decent for a rookie, but those peak moments weren’t enough to make it more than that. He had too many negative carries, so some huge feasts and a lot of little famines isn’t good but it’s not bad either.
Regardless it wasn’t an “eat your crow season.”

And don’t forget he’s a liability in pass protection
How many baby mama he got now?

What a weird bump, didn’t know LF was showing out....he has 23 carries for 77 yds, how pedestrian

Some solid stuff on the first page
Fournette was fantastic this season and 100% hampered by the Jax offense, basically exactly what I said. He averaged less than 4 YPC by leading the league in 8 man boxes.
Find someone else to make fun of, my post was not incorrect.

quote:Impressive as shite if you have any remote understanding of the high school offense Jax had to run this season because of their QB.
All 268 carries: 3.88 YPC
quote:If you ignore context, sure. But why would you ignore context?
So altogether it was an OK season, decent for a rookie
quote:Think that had anything to do with seeing more 8 man fronts than any RB in the NFL? Again, context.
He had too many negative carries
Posted on 1/21/18 at 5:54 pm to shel311
quote:Of course. That’s why I didn’t say he had a below average season despite having below average YPC, and well below average for most of the season. So I acknowledge these factors impacted his stats, but they don’t make below average stats “fantastic;” they make them more like average.
Think that had anything to do with seeing more 8 man fronts than any RB in the NFL? Again, context.

People have too much of a hard on for stats sometimes. The jags didn't get this far on the arm of Bortles
Posted on 1/21/18 at 7:12 pm to jmarto1
Bortles did have a couple of good games. And their defense is elite too. Fournette contributed no doubt but he didn’t carry the team or anything.
Posted on 1/21/18 at 7:49 pm to jmarto1
quote:No, they were a pretty complete team overall. I just hope you’re not implying it was mostly because of Fournette, because they went 3-0 in his absence and averaged 31.7 points per game, 7 more than the other 13. Of course he played a role though.
