We would have been better off not having insurance at all. Have to pay $2K for an ER visit. We'd have owed ZERO if we'd have been uninsured.

I'm assuming that 2,000 is what insurance allowed, and it's coming from your deductible. Without insurance, they would have billed you 10,000 (for real), and you'd have to call every provider to beg for a cash discount. In my case, that would have meant the ER, the medical group they contract with, and the radiologist. This is not a defense of insurance; it's an indictment of the whole fricked up system, which needs to be scrapped and rebuilt in a sane way.

Fairly certain you would have personally been billed. If you dont pay, your credit is fricked.
