We've done London twice and both times, we would go to the train station and just pick randomly. Cheap and easy. I suggest Oxford. The whole town is the university with colleges spread throughout with pubs and churches in between. Perfect day trip.

Oxford is fantastic. I only recommend Stonehenge if you do the inner circle tour.

Agree. Oxford or Windsor. If you go to Oxford, you can also take a bus to Blenheim Palace (Churchill's birthplace).
