Riding 38 years, street, dirt, racing, everything. Do yourself a HUGE favor, buy a cheap used dirtbike first. Go low speed crash it until you learn some skills. Take the MSF course. On the street, assume every car is trying to kill you.

Like some others, I worked ERs early in my career. Too many motorcycle accidents to make me want to buy one. I understand the allure. The risk is just not worth it to me. However, to each his own.
