LSU with Miles vs Wisky =/= LSU with O vs BYU

This team will be top 10 after week 3.

They beat Arizona, Mississippi St, and Michigan St last year

This group of teams was a combined 12-25 last year. Michigan State and Arizona were absolutely awful, 3 win teams.

Their four losses (to Utah, UCLA, West Virginia, and Boise St) were each by 3 points or less.

They won 4 games by a TD or less- seems those two things probably balance out.

They return QB Tanner Mangum, who threw for over 3,000 yards in 2015, and 7 starters on defense.

He's a good player, and their defense is solid.

I am bullish on the Tigers this year, but this is going to be a good game. We might look back at the end of the season and realize BYU is one of the better teams we played all year.

I don't agree. In this impressive season you're referencing from last year, they went 9-4 against a schedule with 2 Power 5 teams with a winning record, losing to both of them. Their metrics and underlying peripherals indicate they probably got lucky to win those 9 games.

I expect LSU to win by multiple touchdowns.

They have flat out killed UT for 2-3 years running and this game sets up well for them as LSU has lots of young players in key roles playing against 23 year old players who are as committed to BYU as a military school - dangerous game. More so than a TCU type game.

He's a really good QB.

With that being said, I don't think BYU will have an answer for Guice.. tigers win big 38-17

If the Offense stutters we're in trouble early. They can move the ball through the air.

They lost to 9 win Utah by a 1 point and 10-win WVU by a FG. Let's not act like they werent competitive with the best teams on their schedule.

I'm not sleeping on them. They're always disciplined and are all grown men.

So you'd say a team that is maybe the 5th best team we face out of 12 total teams is one of the better teams we play?

And did you forget that we play Tennessee this year? Tennessee is a better football team.

Texas A&M and Arkansas are also better football teams than BYU.

FTR, ESPN FPI rankings would put BYU as the 9th most difficult team we face. In other words, they are our toughest non-conference opponent.

You clearly don't have any idea what you're talking about when it comes to 2017 college football teams.

For some reason people see BYU as this helpless little mid-major thats on a level of SMU or something.

They are a team who is always veteran with tons of experience, chock full of 23 and 24 year old starters. Physically, they will have some definite stand out players. They have more than a handful of strong islanders there.

Mangum is also really legit, and will be 24 years old this season. BYU generally doesn't beat themselves, they were +12 in turnover margin last season, and were not far at all from being undefeated. I think it will be a really close game we pull away in the 4th quarter in, something like 31-21 final, and people will be rioting on here with that score being "too close".

THIS. However, if les was still in charge I would be more worried. I think we come out hot under CEO. Just don't see us having the same mentality as years past. They were different when he took over much less after a full offseason. Tigers win big. Worthy opponent tho. They will be ready and well coached.

One advantage we do have is that they have no idea what our offense will look like.

None. Zip. Nada.

First game, lots of new faces on D. No proven receivers minus Chark. We'll be in a game, prepare.

I said this exact same thing about Wisconsin before we played them.

How do you know what I think? They are borderline top 25 team that can most certainly beat LSU. There now you know what I think.

BYU was the team that put the finishing nail in Texas' coffin to put them into mediocrity for these last 3 years. They aren't going to be champions, but they play up to their opponents and are very scrappy

Fortunately, O won't pull the reigns back like Les would.

It's a great way to get the season started. A great first game will usually make you work harder for the start of the season.

My thing is that this offense is totally different. It's built to score points and our personnel is built to create mismatches, which is what will happen against many teams this year. The previous offense didn't take advantage of our talent superiority, this offense will do that IMO.

Our defense is going to be very very good and BYU might be able to jump on us early but once Aranda and LSU clamp down it's going to be over. I think our offense keeps scoring and they have to start taking risks which our defense takes advantage of.

I also think ST will play a role in this game. We will score a TD or two on punt return, kick return, or blocked punt. This is going to be a fast high flying team in all phases which I don't think BYU can handle. 35-14 LSU

All that sounds great, however this team will take time to gel offensively and defensively. Etling will have be more consistent and the OL concerns me. Not saying they lose but sure won't shock me or cause me to write off the whole season. This is very much a cross roads for LSU football.

To be fair LSU was also very close to being undefeated last year. I mean no one even Bama whipped up on LSU. We aren't that far off from being a legit championship team. Our QB is a senior as well, he's smart too.

We revamped this offense and they have no idea what's going to happen. No one really knows what's going to happen. BYU is solid but the only teams we lost to last year is when LSU had a very bad day offensively. I just think we will see a completely different LSU team this year.

With that said BYU is going to be tough and if we don't have our shite together it's going to be close. If we are clicking the second half we will pull away. Possibly within the first half.
