The MJ myth hs grown insane

MJ is the GOAT, but go watch videos of games he played. He was the best out there but it wasn't mythical. There were guys playing during his time that were right there with him. Yet, his hyper train has got to the point to saying the second best player "isn't even close"

It's absurd the level of marketing masterminds behind MJ

Whereas when Wilt played, the only player who could possibly approach him in ANYTHING was Bill Russell in rebounds because Wilt's scoring average routinely exceeded the runner up by a 10+ margin. There were seasons when Wilt would record 24-24 averages at age 30+, literally insane. You talk about blowing away the curve, the Big Dipper destroyed the curve so thoroughly it was essentially the equivalent of him playing on all-pro level in a video game and the opponent on rookie. Compared to the mean of player production in his era, no one, with exception of Jim Brown and Don Hutson, dominated a sport like Wilt Chamberlain.

What I feel people don't give LeBron enough credit for is his consistency and constant ability to elevate his production in the playoffs when the stakes are highest, obvious exception of 2011 Finals. LeBron's 27-7-7 career average is no phantom average, he consistently records these types of numbers year after year after year with almost no deviation it's practically clockwork. Come playoff time LeBron has a career average of 28-9-7 in the postseason roughly duplicating his career regular season average. His lowest playoff production #s: 2011-24-8-6 which isn't too bad bc the Finals definitely diminished what his scoring output would have been and, like a fine wine, LeBron's playoff performances continue to elevate as he ages. Age 32, he averaged 33-9-8 in the playoffs and the first Finals triple-double average, sick.

Only three players ever have had the ability to literally score at will: Wilt, Shaq and MJ. When they really wanted it, they scored or went to the FT line. Period. There was nothing you could do about it.

With Wilt it was because of when he played and who it was against

With Shaq, he couldn't hit the FTs once you put him on the line

Jordan got to name his point total on any given night. If he wanted 42, he was gonna score 42.

Yes, he was THAT good. The man averaged nearly 40 PPG in an NBA season as a wing player. He averaged 42 a game in a Finals series while the opposition essentially ignored every other player on the court except he and Pippen.

Not sure why this thread is still going. There is no comparison between MJ and Lebron for anyone who saw MJ play, which I think don't post on the MSB.
