You are an absolute fricking moron and that is before you started posting in this thread.

From New Orleans and have lived in Katy Texas for 20 plus years. I love New Orleans amd always will consider it home. I could never move back because of what it has evolved into over the last decade.

Houston is a great city that has great qualities but it is different than New Orleans. Consider only the good qualities of New Orleans and it is a wonderful place. But put everything together and New Orleans is a tourist destination and Houston is not. Overall New Orleans is a shithole of a city to live. People will go to New Orleans just because. People go to Houston for a reason.

One of the better examples of a city that should consider growing upward and not outward.

A lot of y'all are entirely too hyped about this.

I love NOLA and plan to live here for the foreseeable future, but I'm single with no kids. I understand why families would want to move, and why people want to avoid the city. There are ample reasons. I just like the drinking scene in my neighborhood, the food, and my friends here more than I hate the streets, crime, and incompetent government. *shrug* Nothing wrong with wanting to move somewhere else.

Here's the thing about Houston... years ago it was known strictly as a place with a good economy. It wasn't known for it's culture and it was thought of as ugly.

Now that the city has been established as an economic power, the culture has been building up over the years and they have been working on "beautifying" the city. Adding more greenery, more art, more parks, etc.

They're working to improve the city by making downtown more of a place to be rather than just work.

The city has been rapidly improving in areas that make a city a place you want to be.

That's a major difference between Houston and New Orleans. New Orleans has been on the decline for years. New Orleans is an old city that's content with just skating by on "charm". Houston is a city that is on the rise and is building itself into a world-class, forward-thinking city.

I could retire there but making a decent living in my field would be challenging

I've never been to Boise but I've heard good things. It's close to a lot of great outdoors stuff. It's definitely bigger than any place in MT as far as amenities and such.

I have a friend that lives in Boise. It's a nice area but being flooded with CA transplants right now is what he tells me.

i mean, thats great, houston does have a lot of potential; being like NY or LA or Chi is wonderful if thats your style

certainly you could see why one would prefer to not live in those places though
