I thought the death penalty was available to people who raped/molested kids under a certain age
Death penalty is not an option. Life without parole is the automatic sentence for this crime. If he ends up pleading to a lesser charge, for whatever reason, I'd expect it'd still carry decades in prison then lifetime sex offender registration when released.

there is no way in hell a person like this should ever be allowed out of prison.
