Cancer cells are pretty fascinating. Basically, they are immortal. Most of the cancer cell lines used in research today were harvested from cancer patients who died in the 50's and 60's. Kind of strange to think that someone who died of cancer nearly 70 years ago lives on as cancer cells.
I had the opportunity to work with breast cancer cells a few semesters ago. It was pretty neat watching them go into survival mode when treated with drugs. It gave me a fresh perspective on why they are so hard to kill.

The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks is one of my all time favorite books.
Absolutely fascinating but also quite controversial.

So if we could figure out how to make normal cells immortal and functional , we could live very long life spans.
