The Good Side of Rondo

Great article from Oleh at TBW focusing on the positives of recent Rondo. The negatives are still there of course, it's just the positives rarely get discussed and Oleh has pulled them all into one place.
It's a long article but worth the read if you're looking for reasons on why the Rondo signing might help the team a lot. LINK

Rajon has a wonderful relationship with DeMarcus Cousins, a figure who was reportedly instrumental in bringing the free agent to New Orleans. According to Rondo, Cousins was immediately drawn to him because they were the fiercest of competitors, and at the same time, assholes, knuckleheads and hard-headed players.
...Cousins once hinted at wanting to see the Kings keep Rondo past the one-year deal in Sacramento — threatening to kidnap him if need be — and now, why Rajon has in all likelihood accepted a below market deal to come to New Orleans.
...did you know he was responsible for fostering a meeting between DeMarcus Cousins and George Karl when they were at each other’s throats?
...In addition to Boogie’s trusting presence on the roster, Rondo has close ties to Darren Erman, or Baby Thibodeau, if you prefer...Darren Erman got through to Rondo. As to where others have failed like Rick Carlisle, Erman did not. How did he do it? I'm not sure, but I do know that he got Rondo to read through and understand an 100-page scouting report on the Atlanta Hawks back in 2008. Years later, he exhibited this preparation ability in a game between the Celtics and Warriors where Erman's team ran a seldom used play and Rondo showed he was more than ready for it.
...Rondo is on a much longer streak of good play than just a 2-game playoff sample...Rondo’s offense came to life well before the start of postseason. He was only one of four players to average a line of 14/6/9 or better per 36 minutes last season following the All-Star break. Once his clash with Jim Boylan and the controversy with Dwyane Wade and Jimmy Butler were in the rear view mirror, one could say vintage Rondo showed up on the scene.
...According to NBA Stats tracking data on drives, Rondo posted the 11th best field goal percentage among players who averaged six drives or more per game following the All-Star break
...Jimmy Butler followed in Gibson’s footsteps, stating that he believes Rondo most certainly isn’t deserving of the bad reputation that follows everywhere.
“I don’t feel his reputation fits him at all. Rondo’s an incredible basketball player, friend, brother to me now, to us. I think we love him here. I think the fans love him as well, the organization, I think everyone has nothing but great things to say about him. I don’t see where that reputation came from at all.”

if they get motivated, focused Rondo, even at 31, that's a great deal.
Fisher's piece on Davis yesterday was also very good

The Monty Williams plan can best be explained as training wheels. Anthony Davis was rarely asked to create his own shot beyond attacking the offensive glass.
Gentry arrived, injuries (not his fault) came along too, and the training wheels were forcibly removed.
In the past two years Davis has seen his usage increase substantially. The vast majority of that increase can be tied to AD cooking for himself rather than allowing a point guard to serve him the dishes we were all used to under Monty. Like many kids without training wheels or young adults living on their own for the first time, there were mistakes. Many, many mistakes.

All along, be mindful of the fact that Davis has improved
quote:
Creating less of his own offense (thanks to a changing role and being surrounded by better creators), more shots closer to the basket, and the ease of fewer double teams are on tap for Anthony Davis. The lessons he learned when Gentry took off the training wheels should now be better applied. And Davis will, even with all these environmental improvements, himself come back better after a healthy summer to focus on his craft without distraction of injury rehabilitation

I don't even think there's really a down side.

I am biased. I really liked Rondo during those Boston title years. Even though he's had some run ins with coaches and players since then, I still am optimistic that he can tap back into that player.
Look how different the Bulls were after Rondo got hurt this past postseason.

Good god, can you imagine how tedious this shite probably was?
I'm a believer.
