No helmet is going to save football. Only way to prevent this head trauma stuff is to play flag football

Need to get rid of the face mask. Will necessitate more rugby style tackling.

One of my boys wore one during spring practice. Coach had anyone that had ever had a concussion wear them for added protection

I just think adding to the helmet compounds the problem.

Lowering your head - to get lower then the next guy - in a battering ram stance...doesn't solve anything. Extra protection will likely equate to extra risk.

The helmet or head protection in whatever form can't be a weapon. That's the only solution. Because humans have a self-preservation instinct that trumps everything else.

You can't make people feel they are invincible. Because as we've learned, they are far from that with the best helmets. But the facemask is the key; facemask makes the helmet a weapon...helmet by itself isn't that bad...and would become mostly just protective. Facemask makes the helmet a weapon. It makes everyone fearless.

Sure, as the previous poster mentioned there will still be heroes out there to make a name for themselves.

But the majority isn't going to slam their nose and face into a running back busting through the line.

Putting more padding or shite on helmets is only going to make the players more reckless. It isnt going to stop concussions.

Rugby doesnt use helmets because they actually form tackle.

tackling in football was meant to be around the legs. why arent coaches help more accountable?

Reason why rugby sees far less injury's in a sport that has the same amount of tackling with way lesser pads.

The only logical answer is to remove or severely modify the face mask/protection -allow only single bar or safety glasses or use only when broken nose is healing, etc.

Sure, you'd have a bunch of broken teeth and noses and facial lacerations but the incidents rates for head, neck, and spinal injuries would plummet.

Could even be argued that fan interest may even be piqued because players' faces would be more visible and more blood. The hitting may not be quite as spectacular but plenty of it would still fall into the 'brutal' category...
