Why would "they" tip anyway. They had a horrible experience at your restaurant, as indicated by them finishing their meal before asking to speak to a manger about how terrible it was.

Had a colleague pull a stunt like this. She isn't hurting for money either. Vile behavior. She makes 10 different requests about her salad/meal, eats it all, and then refuses to pay because something didn't meet the standards of her 10 requests.

I way over-tipped. Felt so bad for our server.

About a year later I had the opportunity to go out to dinner with a group and she was going to be there. I told the inviter, "hell no".

I find high school kids are the worst. Had a waiter who had a table of 5 or 6 kids once. They must have all came with 20 bucks and spent as close to it as they could. Dude made less than 5 bucks off the entire table. I actually felt bad for him because he was a young kid and was an attentive waiter. I ended up tipping him a whole lot more than I should have just because I felt sorry for him for getting a shitty group.

I think the type of establishment has more to do with it than anything else. I've waited tables in restaurants on across the spectrum and the more upscale it is the less likely you'll get a bad tip. Blacks and whites, men and women, all seem to tip decent at high end places.

On the low end side I do agree that blacks tend to tip poorly (in general, there's always exceptions), to the point that the black servers I worked with wouldn't want those tables because the knew they probably wouldn't make much.

I also agree that teenagers are the absolute worst no matter the race.

Yeah well, this is true from experience. We had a black guy who would come in two or three times a week alone for lunch. Everyone hoped that he got sat in his/her section because he religiously left a twenty for like a fifteen dollar meal, and he was the easiest guy to serve.

We don't tip that well, but everyone in my family usually tips 20%+. Some blacks tend to over compensate because of the stereotype.

Well shite, I don't want to tip well solely because of self-demonization. Time to lower the tip percentage!

So democrats want governement to hand out monies to waiters and other poors, but not actually give it to them themselves?

I've always found this perplexing.

It's the do as I say, not as I do mentality. It's a plank in the democratic platform.

frick this motto.

If you can afford to eat at a place, you can afford to eat at a place.

A tip is a bonus. Someone bringing me a beer and a cheeseburger is worth about $2-$3 dollars max.

Obviously you have never served before

It's not as easy as it looks. You make it sound like it's a mindless job

It actually takes some effort and thought to make bringing you your burger and beer seem effortless and routine. It's one thing if you only have one table. But me yesterday for example. I had 4 tables and then I got a 5th table of 13 come in. Having to manage all of that and keep everyone happy and make sure everyone's needs are met is a bit tougher.

One of those tables during this was a simple 1 top where all she ordered was a sandwich and diet coke. Bill was $12. To you that might seem effortless but making sure I got to her when I had 25 other guests to attend to took some effort. Thankfully she didn't have your mindset and left me $10 since she saw all that I had going on

Well he could be using this as a side job to make some extra cash to, i don't know, build savings for a home down payment. Maybe he even wants to pay down some that crippling student debt, if he has some. Maybe he just has good work ethic. I don't know why he is doing, but can't kick a man for working what you may deem as an inferior job.

Also, he could be doing it to pick up women.

His pompous persona on here isn't copacetic with being a waiter IMOFWIWGFY

Had this happen to me when I was in Iowa

Had a table of 35 or so for a Quincenera. Basically the tables were a revolving door of 15 year olds. Total nightmare trying to keep up. Half of those who showed up bailed without paying there share expecting others to pick up the tab. Those who stuck around all split their checks and together were about $50 short. So 3 of the girls stuck around trying to scrounge up money but no one was willing to pay. So they left being $44 short. Fortunaelty a bystander guest saw what was going on and gave me $100. Turns out he was an owner of a local dealership

When I waited tables in Baton Rouge that was true for the men. Sometimes I felt bad because I knew they were trying to overcompensate for the stereotype lol. The women were always horrible tippers.

Unfortunately I see this shite all the time in Atlanta. Women usually, and often when out with other women pertaining to some drink they order.

I want so badly to hear a server/waiter say "Listen lady, this is a margarita at Chili's, for frick's sake"

If I made a list of the 10 best tips I have ever gotten, at least 4 would have been from black men

I know a guy who is an accountant and he subtracts the tax and gives 15% tip to the penny, figuring it out in his head. To the penny!

Good for him. I hope he adjusts according to the service. If so, he is my hero.

Basically what everyone already knows,

- Republicans tip when dining out

- Democrats expect to be treated like royalty and don't tip them for it

Maybe the service industry should stop suggesting a tip of 20% of the price of the dinner and find a more appropriate way to reward staff for a job well done.

Increase every item on the menu by 20% and pay staff 20% of their sales each shift. Then staff doesn't see a decrease in pay, therefore does not quit and leave us with Burger King level employees. And the customer sees very little difference in overall money spent.

They could even just do a 15% price increase and pay them 15% of sales instead because even if we did away with tipping, a lot of people would still feel obligated and tip with cash anyway.

Was at Dreamland yesterday. Saw a $4 tip on a $33 check. I was thinking Geeez

If the service was bad 10+% is perfectly fine.

I recal growing up a 10% tip was pretty standard. Somewhere in the last 20 years 20% became the norm.
