Current iteration of Wilco is hard to beat for musicianship. Nels Cline shreds about as good as anyone. Jeff is a really good rhythm guitarist and Glenn is a badass on drums. The others are also stellar in their roles.

I always thought Emerson Lake and Palmer (ELP) was supremely talented even though I liked Deep Purple, Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin better. Grand Funk too although I never considered them to be as strong technically.

Yes. By far.
Steve Howe - guitar. One of the most technically proficient and wildly varietal ever.
Chris Squire - bass. Talented to the max, and versatile as well.
Rick Wakeman - keyboards. A wizard.
Bill Bruford - drums. A veteran of rock and jazz, very talented.
Plus Jon Anderson on lead vocals, Squire and Howe on harmony vocals.
All classically trained, university educated. All consummate musicians.
Also Jethro Tull, ELP, ELO, King Crimson. And don't forget The Rolling Stones.
