Serious question. I know she had brain surgery, but did they have to take her eye, or is this something she has to wear permanently?

As I said in the OP, I understand she had brain surgery. I am just wondering what the patch is for.

See, I was too busy trying to be a smart arse and didn't read...oops

In all seriousness, I think she has to wear it for awhile. I don't know what the recovery time is.

I looked this up awhile back. Due to her brain surgery she supposedly now has a lazy eye. She is wearing the patch to cover it up.

I think the cover is more than just for vanity reasons. Buddy of mine had an eye issue and the doctors wanted it covered to allow it to heal.

Can't begin to tell you how funny this is to me. I'm a big smartass and do crap like this all the time. I always respect people that are self aware, admit there mistakes and/or laugh at themselves.

+1 to you, sir.

Her surgery was 9-10 months ago, I would hope it's healed by now.

Ya I didn't say it was for any particular reason but in the article she talks a bit about being self conscious. I'm sure it is a big adjustment regardless.

This is her quote from a People article.

“I have been hiding myself from a camera for the past 7 months. I didn’t want anyone to see my paralyzed face, my eye that is now crossed, the bald spots from radiation & my half shaved head. Granted you can’t see any of those things in this picture, just a patch…it’s a huge step,”

Eta: Well, shite, I somehow didn't even see the previous post with basically the same info.

Ok. I'm just saying from my personal experience with a person suffering with an eye issue similar to hers, he had to wear an eye patch at the request of his doctor for several months. He wore a cool black eye patch though

That eye very well maybe sensitive to light hence the patch.

I dunno. But judging by that picture she's a very pretty lady, eye patch or no eye patch.

Well hopefully with that smooth 126mil Jrue can get it fixed up for her... met them both 2 years ago at an event and they're so incredibly nice and personable. Like the kind of people you want nothing but success for and walk away questioning yourself and why you're such an a-hole in comparison.

Serious answer:

She had a meningioma right behind her ocular cavity. Considering how close it was to her eye, she is probably still experiencing issues such as double vision or problems with depth perception. She likely is still doing rehab to get her vision back to normal, but it can take a long time and she still needs the patch to walk and function normally. I seriously doubt it is just an aesthetic thing.
