Have Betances and Chapman gotten back into their groove?
Betances had that stretch where he couldn't throw a strike

Betances has been decent. Still having some control problems, but not really allowing runs. His last 9 and 2/3 innings, he's allowed 1 earned run and has 16 strikeouts. So pretty damn good I guess.
Chapman has looked as good as he has since the beginning of 2016 his last two times out. They're making him throw his slider a ton, and it's paying off.

Chapman has been really good the last few times out I think, I dunno on Betances. Even if Betances isn't great you have Robertson/Kahnle/Chapman on the back end plus Warren is having a good year. That is a huge advantage as far as shortening games

Greene has been even better than Warren. He throws 100 and strikes out more than 10 per 9 innings.

Forgot about Greene too

Pretty disappointed with what the Stros did today
I understand the Astros fans frustrations, but they aren't the type of team at this point to make big trades.
- This season isn't an anomaly and their one chance to make a playoff run.
- They haven't been knocking on the door for several years and are getting desperate to avoid getting knocked out again in the Wildcard game.
- Their window isn't closing soon.
They are set up to be contenders for years. Yes, they could have done a little more to bolster their bullpen. Another arm or two would have helped, and the cost wouldn't have been high.
Some teams feel the pressure and are willing to pay a high price, while teams like the Astros are probably too passive because they expect to make several playoff runs in the near future.

I still think they could have made one more low cost move like Reed or Kintzler like you said to give the pen some much needed help. It sounded like they had a deal for Britton that fell through at the last second, probably due to Angelos not signing off, but still really disappointing they basically stood pat.

So the Cards stood pat with Pham, Fowler, Piscotty, Grichuk, Bader, and Sierra as OF on their 40 man roster?

Here's the deal though, you never know what next season is going to bring. Everyone was saying this about the Cubs last year and now no one sees them as real contenders to win it all.
If you have a chance to win it, you do everything you can to try and put your team in the best position to do so.
A lot of AL teams got better today while Houston didn't. They are still the favorite, but if they fall short and somehow don't win anything over the next few years then this will be the season that fans look back on.

I still see Chicago as contenders to win it all

I feel better about the Yankees vs the Stros now. With Severino and Gray going and that bullpen. They still have holes but if the Yankees have a lead after 5 I'd feel confident it being over.

No one is picking Chicago to take the Dodgers.
It would be like picking the Indians/Royals to take out Houston in the ALDS. It would be nothing but a massive upset.
ETA: thinking Minnesota was Cleveland

They are but the favorites are the Dodgers and Nationals

Much crazier things have happened. The Cubs are much much more dangerous than KC or Minnesota and are red hot right now. I think they're definitely the second most likely team to win the pennant in the NL

I'll take Chicago all day over the Nats

So them winning the NL would be an upset, in your own words
