Illegal Alien to be paid $190k by city for being turned in to immigration

Granted that it is SanFrancisco but still, how does this happen? It isn't false arrest or excessive force, they arrested him for something he admits he is guilty of doing. He is suing solely because they arrested him.

A man from El Salvador in the U.S. illegally who sued San Francisco after police turned him over to immigration authorities in violation of the city's sanctuary law is set to be awarded $190,000, his attorney said Thursday.

“It’s really important for San Francisco to remain a sanctuary city not in name only but also in practice,” Hussain told The San Francisco Examiner. “Our hope is that the department is going to look into this further and really examine the way that the department can do more." Figueroa-Zarceno sued San Francisco in January for violating its sanctuary city law.

Cut all federal funding.

Because it's against San Francisco's sanctuary law for San Francisco police to arrest him on an immigration charge.
Not saying it isn't dumb, but dumb laws were passed but they're still laws so that's how this happens.

I think the time has come to kick California out of the union.

I don't even know where to start with this.
They have a law that says that a criminal is immune from laws and that criminal sued the city for the police department arresting a criminal and enforcing the laws.

It doesn't say the criminal is "immune from laws." It prevents city police from enforcing federal law. State and Federal agencies can still enforce the law.
It's not like this is the only situation where this type of thing has happened. Look at the current state of marijuana laws, where at the Federal level both recreational and medicinal marijuana are illegal, yet many states have legalized one or both. Where the federal government can still penalize businesses because marijuana is schedule I, but they are forbidden from using funds to crack down with raids.
I think San Francisco's position on illegal immigration enforcement is dumb as frick. But at the same time I respect the separation of powers we have in this country. Local governments, state governments, etc. have the right to enforce or not enforce federal law as they see fit, how it fits into their budgets, etc.

Good for him.
If San Francisco wants to avoid asinine situations such as this, remove the sanctuary city tag.

Need to cut federal and state funding for this kind of behavior.

And then watch the country turn into the center for terrorist cells and activity.

Dumb question but if you step foot outside of a sanctuary city limits, are you then eligible to be arrested and sent back to your country of origin?

Virtue signaling taken to a entirely different level. A city wide level.

A bill passed the House yesterday to enable a cutoff.
Next stop the Senate. Then POTUS will sign it.
Congress controls the purse, not the POTUS or the Courts.

Didn't take him long to find the M Bart of immigration.

Further proof that the people that run San Francisco (and California, for that matter) have absolutely lost their minds.

That dollar figure is stupid, but those cops are idiots for violating their own local law in that manner.
quote:
The construction worker said he went to police in December 2015 after getting a call from authorities that his stolen car had been found. Instead of helping him, he said, officers detained him and called immigration authorities.
He was taken into custody by federal authorities outside the police station and was in jail for two months. He has been fighting his deportation since his release.

I'd love to see all of those thousands of convicts start suing the states/cities across the nation.

This is a city law. That means that it only prevents city police from enforcing the law. That means that if you take a step outside of the city, the city police no longer have jurisdiction to arrest you anyway.
