It was the right call but Slaughter sliding on his right side on the outside of the bag made it look worse than it actually was. If he slides on his left side, but still to the outside, he was close enough to bear hug the bag and it wouldn't have been so obvious.

Maybe, but he was clearly going for the fielder. He spiked him and everything.

Umps should have all huddled after the play to discuss among themselves and come to the correct decision. This is exactly what they did whenCoomes stretched on first base. They got that call correct and should have come to the conclusion of a no call here!!
