Championship Series

Hey Tigers. Nole fan dropping by. Congratulations on making the Championship Series - Nole fans are certainly pulling for you guys to knock off that team we won't mention. I created an account here to specifically get your opinions on the Championship Series format, specifically, the one day rest between bracket play and championship series. Below is a post I created on the FSU board, interested in your opinions on the topic. Btw, in no way am I busting your guy on the bump tonight - just used him as the example for my point. Like I said in my post, he could go out and throw a gem.

Championship Series:
I've complained about this before and still believe something needs to be done about the Championship Series being played with one days rest (could have been two had UF beat TCU Friday and LSU not dropped the first game to OSU). It's the sports biggest stage of the year, yet we won't get to see either teams ace throwing, unless a game three is played and they would be throwing on short rest - four days to be exact. It's not good for the sport or for the pitchers. LSU is starting a guy who hasn't started a game since 2015, has an 8.59 ERA and has pitched a total of 14.2 innings all season. This is good for the sport, how exactly? Sure, he may go out and throw a gem, but this sport, this stage, deserves best on best. 1 vs 1. 2 vs 2. 3 vs 3. The sport has gone to a true series (and I don't want to go back), its time to play it like one.

Can you imagine Major League Baseball having one day off between the AL / NL Championship Series before the start of the World Series? Can you imagine an MLB World Series that didn't see a teams ace pitch? No Kershaw, Greinke, Bumgarner, Lester ... insert team's ace here. It absurd. The sport goes from playing three games series all year long, to four-team bracket play, then back to a three game series, then back to four team bracket play, then back to a three game series on one days rest. Woof.

I've heard the cost argument: that if you wait three additional days for example and start the series on Thursday, rather than tonight, it would cost the NCAA significant dollars to keep the teams in Omaha. I get that. Understand it completely. But is the NCAA making this decision in the best interest of the sport? Best interest of the players?

I've also heard the argument from the fans perspective: that if you extend the series an additional three days for example it would place a huge burden on the fan - they would have to make the decision to stay the additional three days or drive/fly home and back in time for the series to start. I get that. Understand it completely. But is the NCAA making this decision in the best interest of the sport? Best interest of the players?

From a fans perspective: diehard fans are going to go no matter what. The diehard fan is one who I would consider to be someone who can go out there for 10-days and stick around to watch their team make the Championship series - that would be 14 consecutive days in Omaha under the current format. Players parents are going to go no matter what. So long as cost isn't an issue. The average fan likely isn't making Monday's championship series if they just spent the past 10-days in Omaha watching bracket play, so pushing the series back three-days isn't going to affect them - similarly to the average fan who waits to see if his/her team makes it to the national championship game in football - they are likely sitting out that first playoff game. The average fan is probably only going to go to one or the other - either starting 10-days ago or for tonight's championship series. The folks in Omaha will show no matter what.

I'm not sure there is an "ideal fix". Maybe this is the best the sport can offer. The 10-days preceding the Championship Series are pure bliss. But starting a guy who hasn't started since 2015 and the chance of not seeing either teams ace in the Championship Series sure doesn't show the sport in its best light on the sports biggest stage.
