I much prefer Lafayette BUT based on these qualifiers, I cant argue with this

Lafayette is by the Basin and Vermilion Parish has just alot of hunting and fishing areas (the Bay). All within 30-45 minutes

Yea Laffy is a better city, especially now that traffic is bad in LC, but with the qualifiers the OP has, LC would be a much better fit.
