Sources say a member of Joint Task Force 2 killed an Islamic State insurgent with a McMillan TAC-50 sniper rifle while firing from a high-rise during an operation that took place within the last month in Iraq. It took under 10 seconds to hit the target.
"The shot in question actually disrupted a Daesh [Islamic State] attack on Iraqi security forces," said a military source, who stressed the operation fell within the strictures of the government's advise and assist mission. "Instead of dropping a bomb that could potentially kill civilians in the area, it is a very precise application of force and because it was so far way, the bad guys didn't have a clue what was happening."

Just saw this on Reddit. That's pretty hardcore. To hit a Target over 2 miles away is insane.

37.7 football fields.

That is one hell of a follow through.

At a 975m (~40%) longer than the previous record, I'm pretty confident saying that Canuck is lying his arse off

The article says it was recorded on camera. Drone footage maybe?
I wonder if the target was moving and how many shots he took. It's hard to believe how precise the optics and rangefinders are. How can you even spot a man 2.14 miles away, much less hit him with a rifle shot?

I'm sure it had to be walked in with a spotter. Scope was probably doped out so making calculated adjustments becomes relying on the spotter to call the hold over. .50 BMG is lobbing in at 1.5 miles, at 2+ miles it's like shooting 500 yds with a 45-70.

shite, he could have pulled the trigger and lit a cigarette before watching the impact!

That's an odd way of stating it. For the idiots that know nothing of guns this could be anywhere a millisecond to 9.999 seconds.

Bull shite.
If you ever actually did this or know someone who did you'd know it's bs. I am a war veteran and I do not pretend to know the advanced capabilities of our current military. However, at even 2500'/sec, that round is getting spent a lot sooner than the target

I googled "Barrett .50 cal muzzle velocity". Google says the Barrett M82 has a muzzle velocity of 853 m/sec. With no velocity drop (which of course there would be after traveling over 2 miles), it would take 4.045 seconds to travel 3450 meters.
Also, maximum range is listed as 7450 yards. Maximum Effective Range is 2000 yards, so that Canuck was really working some magic.

My guess is there was a pack of infidels. He aimed at the center and killed one of them. You dont get more than one shot as a sniper shooting that far away. A miss and they would all scatter like ants.
Here is a video of a guy shooting that far. It took him 3 shots to hit a 36" target.
3600yd shot on video

Pretty crazy. They also have to take account for the rotation of the earth when making a shot from that distance.

Technically that's under 10 seconds.
