But why not in the Capitol? Have things gotten so bad that they're afraid of shooting matches?

Well, that will flush out Dems for the Mid Terms who'll have to tow the Party Line re Gun Control. A hot potato on the Congressional Floor.

I'm sure things get heated in debates and plus there should be ample security in the capital building. Those two things taken together justify the exception to me.

Crap. I'm picturing Pelosi or Maxine Waters carrying a concealed weapon.

Seems ripe for a case of natural selection.

Concealed carry permit, should be unconstitutional.

Does that included RPGs and shoulder fired SAMs? After all, those are arms also. 2A doesn't specify guns.

Then it necessarily has to include private ownership of nuclear weapons. I'm not so sure that's a good idea.

Absolutely!

Read Federalist paper #46

The right to bear arms is not for personal protection, it is for protection from the federal government.

Of course you will disagree but think about this undeniable fact. Madison was actually in favor and a supporter of a stronger federal government, when he wrote it.
He specifically spelled out the case that a state should never have to worry about a federal government getting too powerful because we as peoples in this country were already equally armed as well as the the Government he was advocating.

The militia statement is specifically for the States to set up their own militias appointed by members they choose to appoint that can defend themselves from an over reaching tyrannical federal government. They can not do so when the government can employ drones with missiles and the people can only deploy air rifles.

Madison also wrote the second amendment. He fully understood what he meant by it.

IT was ratified by the states.

While you may think that it should not apply in todays times, there is a simple process to deny the rights protected by our founding document( The Constitution of the United States of America)

It is not Congress and local government impinging on our rights previously granted by our constitution but instead the AMENDMENT process defined by the constitution.

IOW if you don't like your guaranteed rights you are free to vote in representatives who will pass a bill to amend the constitution and if you can get a 2/3rds majority of both houses plus the President to sign it and have 2/3rds of the States to ratify then you can deny our rights.

Otherwise shut the frick up.

"A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State..."

Seems to me that Militias are outdated and rather ineffective at securing a state. Never mind that nothing today shouts out "well regulated".
