Got an email today saying now you can say thanks with a tip. I'm guessing they were having a hard time keeping drivers

Don't they also have a base fee to make sure they make money on each ride?

The zero gratuity policy is one of the few things Europe got right.

Nothing like getting your rider rating wrecked because you don't give enough tips.

I'll tip happily if it can be done from the app with no cash.

Can I add to my rider profile that gratuity is dependent on not talking to me?

So they are just doing what Lyft has done all along basically.

I switched over to Lyft a few months ago. I like them a lot plus once in a while they'll give me 50% off rides

Lyft was already doing it, so it's pretty ridiculous Uber wasn't. I'll tip my driver usually (unless they suck), but sometimes I don't have any cash on me. It does show that they haven't really been caring about their drivers if they haven't put in this voluntary feature that could help them.

Eh, I don't think it's such a bad thing.

My friend drives for Uber/Lyft, and he goes all out. He has tablets mounted to the back seats connected to WiFi with bookmarks set for tourist/travel information about the city.

He goes out of his way to help people load their bags. One time he was in my neighborhood and asked me if he could stop by and change his clothes because he helped a wheelchaired veteran into his car during a rainstorm and was completely soaked.

Circumstances like that dictate a tip in my opinion.

I only tipped on Uber once and that was when I was in Portland and the driver had to sit in traffic for about an hour to get me to the auto dealership where my car was in the shop at. Gave him $10.

Sucks if that is the default display and you have to "enter a custom amount" to leave no tip. For Lyft, the default position is "No tip", so you can just hit submit if you don't want to leave a tip.

I like the idea. most drivers are not making as much as they claim after uber takes out their share

So the Uber drivers job is to take you from point a to be for the price he agreed on. Then he expects you to give him more Money or he will give YOU a bad rating. Sounds about right.

I love it when people walk into my office and toss me a few dollars when at my desk doing my job.

I believe in giving a tip to any service worker that gives me an enjoyable experience. Don't care if it's the social norm or not

I wonder how much of the tip the driver will actually get? I assume uber will at least take out the percentage that the CC company charges them.
