Stood way too many 00-06 watches to let an answer like that slide. It doesnt matter if comms aren't there. No fewer than ten watch standers fricked up for this to happen. There are way too many reliable methods to know where that ship is at all times.

The sensors and combat system knew where this tanker was hours before the collision. This is borderline neglegince on many watch standers.

Not even close. This is a catastrophic Watch failure. Millions of dollars of the best Navigational and Operations hardware on the planet, and this DDG cant navigate clear of a container ship?

That's why they have radar. Hopefully they have whoot, whoot sirens i case of impending crash.
