I personally think the smith machine is a great machine but it's a machine, it's not the same as barbells and dumbbells and unless you are really advanced and doing something like D.C. Training then it should not make up the bulk of your routine but if it's all you got, it's all you got.

Just get strong as frick on it and eventually when you can move to barbell movements.
