This is essentially what LSU does now. The only officially retired numbers at LSU are 20 in football, 23, 33, and 50 in basketball, and 15 in baseball. The rest are just retired jerseys, meaning the number is still available to be worn.

Yea, but they hardly have any names listed in the main portion of each stadium and arena.
