You haven't given an ounce of credible info to show why osteopathic physicians are less safe
It's already been established that the boards will be united in the next two years
You have absolutely zero traction to your claims
It's all opinion and it's wrong

And I've got personal experience with other MDs who are god awful. It doesn't mean we are all bad.

Do you think that humility is a valuable trait in a physician?
He who exalts himself will be humbled (probably by a DO), and he who humbles himself will be exalted.

The need for diverse training options are needed due to the quickly changing landscape & view of healthcare today. Patients are increasingly doing their own "research" and taking healthcare advice from celebrities. People are so desperate to look outside of medication to treat/prevent acute and chronic dieseases that they are turn to dangerous treatment options (i.e. stupid oils, ear candling, and other bogus non-FDA approved pills, etc...) in order to have some control over their treatment plan. It's dangerous and shortsighted, but it is happening.
I think in order for your field to keep up with the times, you guys need to look towards alternative methods of educating the same topic and take some cues from DOs in terms of a more holistic approach to medicine in order to sell your worth to the uneducated.

We've already established the differences between DOs and MDs. Both can learn from eachother different perspectives to diagnosing & healing patients and work in harmony together.
Please step off your high horse and have respect for individuals who work just as hard as you for their education, have equal amount of passion for diagnosing and treating patients, and have put in equal amount of time in their hands on training.

They don't work as hard in undergrad or they'd get in the MD schools.
Correction: on average they don't perform as well in undergrad

Well if you want to get technical, admission boards are required to accept a certain percentage of "diverse" students in terms of race, culture, gender, etc... They are willing to go so far to meet national standards, that they are willing to accept a minority with lower GPA & lower MCAT over someone with better GPA & MCAT.
So technically someone who has a stastically lower chance of getting in based on race, culture, or gender are sometimes forced to seeking alternative degrees in order to practice a similar profession.
So in short, no, not always.

Yes there is truth in what you said that some kids in majority demographics get rejected when they may have been accepted if it weren't for a push towards diversity. I don't know that that means we should open OMM schools though without any scientific evidence to support OMM

No the admissions stats are a straight fact

Well, they are already open. Individuals are practicing medicine with DO degrees all over the country. I say if Louisiana students are leaving the state for a DO education regardless of the reason why, wouldn't it be better for economy to go ahead and educate them instate (greater chance of them staying in state and practicing, thus being working, contributing members of Louisiana) ?
Posted on 6/4/17 at 12:23 am to LATigerdoc
They are leaving and coming back as well. We should support LA economy by creating new jobs (through this initiative to open a DO school up in northern LA) and employing educators of our students in our state & seeing them thrive in the future
