Facebook and other social media networks are taking steps to make sure their platforms don't become tools for foreign governments spreading "fake news" stories.

Experts consider the threat level high for these platforms to be used by foreign governments or other entities seeking to influence millions because of their extensive reach and ability to disseminate both malignant links and propaganda.

Fake news. Alternative facts. Four words I wish never existed.

Edit: together that is.

Google has adjusted its news rankings to prioritize known sites over less established ones in an effort to keep false stories from prominent display.

So MSM outlets have a free pass to spread their propaganda while independent news sources can be silenced. If you open Google news, or the Google now app, 95% of their "news" stories are bashing Trump, Melania, Ivanka, etc. Most of these "news" articles are from blogs like HuffPo, Salon, Vox, as well. How they consider these opinion blogs news and worthy of promoting is a mystery.

quote:

"Our algorithms currently work to detect when Twitter accounts are attempting to manipulate Twitter's Trends through inorganic activity, and then automatically adjust,” according to Twitter. Trends are one of the ways the platform surfaces top news or conversations for users.

There are countless examples of lib bots that have been exposed over the past year without any repercussions, and these bot influenced trends then are reported by the MSM as news. Meanwhile many Twitter users who simply offer opposition views have been banned. And let's not forget that Twitter constantly suppresses trending hashtags that go against the narrative.

The company stressed that it has not found evidence that Russia or other countries compromised Facebook accounts.

Then:
quote:

Trump isn’t the end of Russia’s social media and hacking campaign against America, but merely the beginning,” Watts, Weisburd and Berger warned.
