Middle class Americans have to have 2 incomes because they are taxed into submission and receive nothing for those taxes. All the tax $ goes to the congress people or the people who put them there that don't get off the couch. Until America wakes up and makes legit changes more taxes hikes are coming. When is enough, enough

So all you need to do to be the breadwinner as a woman is bring in a quarter of earnings?
All you have to do to be a breadwinner is earn money. To be the primary breadwinner you have to earn 50% plus 1 penny. A breadwinner is simple a person who gets paid in some fashion.

Define middle class? What household income do you think defines middle class?

Forty-two percent of mothers in the United States solely or mostly pull the wagon, while 22.4 bring home at least a quarter of household earnings.

My grandfather would not allow my grandmother to work outside the home. Too proud, he viewed that as a negative reflection of his earning power or financial management skills. She happily stayed home, went to the beauty shop twice a week, raised children, was a ruthless bridge player, and swilled old fashioneds all day. He died 20 years before she did, leaving her a massive estate, she never remarried because no other man could ever compare. She died beautiful, happy, and taken care of until the end.
Now, tell me again who got the better end of that deal?

Or we just keep electing the same do-nothings that are already in Congress that only care about thwir own, and keep driving America into the toilet. $20 trillion
Plus you forget people in Gov't should be doing this as a 2nd job....its a service yet they keep getting richer and America keeps getting deeper in debt

Mrs Pimp has been home for about seven years. Best decision ever but just not realistic for most people . Life's expensive bro.

My insurance didn't go up because of Trump.

Nicely played
Of course the real problem is cost of living. One paycheck won't cover taxes, overpriced health insurance, food, housing, plus college savings and retirement savings.

Nearly two-thirds of American moms these days (64.4 percent) are breadwinners, the researchers found.
I thought women were being held down and not equal?

Its sad that the days of having a parent at home area coming to an end. I think the cost of living has far exceeded earning potential and that makes for a lot of latchkey kids

The majority of the "breadwinners" are probably on government assistance. Even in upper class circles, the amount of attractive, well educated men and women staying single or having no children is not good for society. "Muh career", so women can see how much corporate America sucks.
