Outdoor Kitchen Planning

I'm in the starting stages of a new home build.

I'm not much of a griller now but our backyard sucks and we don't spend much time back there. The new backyard and outdoor living area of the new house will be a focal point. I'm very excited to get to outdoor cooking and hopefully, it turns into a nice hobby for me.

So far I've decided on the following:
Primo XL Oval
Sink with garbage disposal (any tips on the disposal make/model?)

I'm not sure what else I should go with. I'm really debating on if I should also do a gas grill or not. If not, I could always buy a Weber propane and use it as need be if I find the need for gas. I don't want to regret having a gas grill or not having a gas grill.

What else should I consider?

I'd rather have burners for boils and a wok.

THis was my neighbors house.

loved everything but the range and microwave

we used the hell out of those burners



I forgot he went and added a filler spigot on that brick.
Also he wished he had a hood some days.

I'll post pics of mine when it's done next week on my new house.

I have a bull angus 30" grill with drawers and door below. To the right between the sink and gas grill is a beverage cooler. Glass front with lights, wanted something different. Also have a sink and access for for it. The left of the grill is my primo jr about a foot below the top of counter.

They are building it tomorrow and I'll try and update with pics.

I didn't put a disposal on my sink but a 1/2 hp should do out there.

One of my favored additions to mine when we built. I went for the most HP not so much brand. Get the biggest one they offer. I can grind all kinds of stuff out there with out worry.

I opted for a second primo vs a gas grill. Ill take the little extra time maybe to prep the primo vs gas becasue the flavor does not compare. I have a dual gas burner so I have gas piped if I change my mind one day...but thats not going to happen.

Put access doors any place possible for storage and access. I was able to fit doors under my primo that hold big bags of royal oak with ease.

You need to plan for how much depth you need to have the primo open fully and not hit a back splash.

Biggest sink you can fit.

Extra outlets that are on there own circuit if possible. If you fry foods some of those fryers pull a good bit of power. I try to run 2 and it trips...I have to run a extension cord from another circuit. So just be mindful...fridge...fryers...some power hungry things.

This is an expensive way to discover a hobby. Why not just buy a cheap grill and see if you'll like it rather than sinking thousands into an outdoor kitchen?

With that said, I've been planning this for about a year and I'm in the process of building mine now. I just had my stamped concrete placed last week. We extended our existing patio and added more concrete to accommodate the kitchen area. Part of the new extension (16' x 20') will be covered with an insulated patio cover and we'll have two ceiling fans and some recessed led lighting underneath. The kitchen area will be an L-shaped kitchen with a split bar. It will be equipped with a 32" Blaze grill, a double gas burner, green egg, a 15" bar sink, and some access doors and drawers. Kitchen will be covered with stacked stone and counters will be 3cm granite. A pergola will be install over the kitchen area with a ceiling fan and string lights along the perimeter. I'm currently doing the framing out of metal studs in my garage. I'm about 30% complete with the framing. Soon I'll be running a new circuit for either a 60A or 100A sub-panel that will supply the electrical needs of the entire backyard. I'm documenting everything as I go along and will post pictures of the entire process when it's done.

Those of you who have outdoor kitchens, where did you find your sinks and faucets? I'm shopping for one right now and everything I read about the more affordable sinks and faucets (sub $300) all have sketchy reviews. I'm looking for something that will hold up to the elements of being exposed to the weather.

This is one I just did for a client. He went with all Blaze 42" pit, 42" hood, side burner, ice maker, fridge and a 24" open sink. I tried to talk him into a pot filler over the side burner. I need to go back and get more pics now that he's furnished it. The total layout was 40' x 60'
