Guessing you weren't born near that time. My father is half white. My mother is Cherokee. What am I listed on mine? White. Your hyphenated Americans didn't exist till decades later.
When were you born? Because I've known quite a few Native Americans who at least claim to have been listed as such at birth and who check that box on the census. And they mostly look as white as anyone. And as I hinted at, there obviously weren't universal conventions with a lot of this being handled state-by-state, but the claims in juggy's post are laughable. Mixed-race people practically default to the minority race as a rule. No one would have considered a kid with a black father anything but black (or "mulatto") anywhere in this country in the 1960s (or before or since). He wouldn't wouldn't be considered white if his mother were the crown princess of Sweden.

I guess the Irish, Italian, and German-Americans at the turn of the 20th century must have been transported back to that period in time from some notional period decades after you were born. Teddy Roosevelt disparaged the notion of hyphenated Americans, which had already taking hold, in 1915.
