How many batteries are you planning to keep on board? If you are fishing in moving water or a breeze, iPilot is going to go through some power keeping you in place. That said, powerpoles are not "needed." Anchors have done well for years.

buddy has both on his 22' center console. We rarely if ever put the power pole down.

I have them both. I'm ready for it all haha.
I fish everywhere inshore to the coast. Both have their advantages. Great on their own and even better together. I really like driving the TM from the back of the boat

powerpole for when you don't want to move at all in relatively shallow water.
Ipilot for when you want to stay in a general area or follow a track/contour line.

I have both and recommend both to anyone that can afford it. They both make fishing a little simpler and more enjoyable when you learn how and where to use each. When the winds pick up, you are in shallow enough water, and chasing fish that move, the power pole comes into its own. When you are in deep water, in relatively low winds and fishing a school that stays put, the ipolt comes into play.
Ipilot is also nice to to have while tending to others things in the boat, rods, GPS, baits, kids, etc
