Just heard a news blurb that Ketamine is being looked at for depression. Lol.

Right hand, meet left hand.

Just reeling over Norco going schedule 2. But ketamine will improve depression. No shite!!?

Being high as balls often improves mood. Otherwise nobody would get high.

Bet they find a way to charge top $$$$ for an old medication.

We've had a natural cure for depression for thousands of years that a doctor would get arrested for prescribing. It's called alcohol

Ketamine, sold under the brand name Ketalar among others, is a medication mainly used for starting and maintaining anesthesia.[4] It induces a trance-like state while providing pain relief, sedation, and memory loss.[5] Other uses include for chronic pain and for sedation in intensive care.[6][7] Heart function, breathing, and airway reflexes generally remain functional.[5] Effects typically begin within five minutes when given by injection with the main effects lasting up to 25 minutes.[3][4]

Common side effects include psychological reactions as the medication wears off.[8] These reactions may include agitation, confusion, or hallucinations.[4][8][9] Elevated blood pressure and muscle tremors are relatively common, while low blood pressure and a decrease in breathing are less so.[4][9] Spasms of the larynx may rarely occur.[4] Ketamine has been classified as an NMDA receptor antagonist but its mechanism was not well understood as of 2017.[10]

There's actually some really strong studies coming out that support that. Especially for people who have tried everything from your run of the mill SSRIs to electroshock therapy.

They're talking microdoses of ketamine, not the amount that gets you flying. I'm usually skeptical of Big Pharma, but this is something that has promise. It has helped people with depression that nothing else would touch.

There is quite a bit of research showing psychedelics, which ketamine can be, help with depression. Hydrocodone also can help short term depression but it was moved to schedule 2 because it can be highly addictive. These two drugs are nothing alike and ketamine for depression would most likely be used in a medical setting under the supervision of a professional. To compare these drugs is silly.

I usually don't get into these 'Big Pharma' discussion, because it's silly and usually misinformed.

People are always looking for someone or something to blame... everything but themselves.

It's easy to accuse a vague/mysterious entity like 'Big Pharma' as the cause of all your problems. 'They' made you fat, made you depressed, caused your diabetes, caused your heart failure, got you addicted, destroyed your libido, made you drop out of college/high school, got you stuck in a marriage with a loser husband/fat wife, gave your kids autism...

Yeah... sure... if 'Big Pharma' suddenly ceases to exist... will your problems go away?

Often times all your problems... it's you!!

R&D and trials cost so much for Rx that you can't just put an approved drug out to pasture.

The theory is that ketamine can cure depression long term, not just while you're on it. Ive seen first hand how theraputic drugs like lsd and mushrooms can be. Im sure ketamine is similiar
