Here's the Gulf Shareholders' Alliance statement on the subject. Spoiler alert, it's all our fault and these fish aren't free. Unless the rights to fish them are gifted to you through a back room deal with NOAA, because then yeah they are free. Suck it poors.

Hopefully Garrett Graves can get something to happen with this.

they are blaming the states for pushing fishing waters out to 9 miles without even doing an assessment on the supply.

I like how they casually leave out the amount caught by commercial fishermen.

Should call those two dickbags listed at the bottom of the press release non stop. What a sack of shite, recreation fisherman have just as much right to the resource as anyone. How is it that we can't get anything done on this? I know that most of the Snapper caught are from Texas/Louisiana/Mississippi/Alabama/Florida, but any state that lies on the coast should understand this overreach can eventually affect their fisheries. If we got all the politicians from those states to pile in, I'm not sure why we can't get something worked out.

They blame the state season yet the charter captains got an increase to 49 days! If the stock is truly suffering due to overfishing in state waters everyones season should be reduced yet theirs was increased. It used to be the same as recreational but last 3 years they have been getting 5 times or more what we get
